In 1976, Charlie’s journey brought him to Toronto, marking the start of his long-standing involvement with the Toronto Musicians’ Association (TMA 149). Prior to this, he had been a member of the Halifax Local since 1969 and the Boston Local from 1972. Each transition enriched his perspective, deepening his understanding of the musician’s world and the nuances of artistic advocacy.
Since becoming the Secretary of TMA 149 in 2009, Charlie Gray has made significant contributions. His pragmatic yet forward-thinking leadership has addressed the immediate needs of musicians while fostering long-term stability and growth. He successfully increased the Memberās Assistance Fund to $100 per week, offering vital support to musicians facing hardship.
