Diana Krall

2010 TMA149 Musician of the Year Award Recipient

“She lives the song, and does it with such honesty and immediacy, that we forget whether the song has written in 1938 or 1968. It sounds like she composed it on the piano this afternoon before showing up at the gig.” – Ted Gioia, jazz.com

After selling over 15 million albums world-wide, winning three Grammys and eight Junos, and being made an Officer of the Order of Canada, Diana Krall needs no introduction. Few musicians in any genre can even come close to matching these accomplishments, but they are especially remarkable for a jazz musician – especially one who has continued to grow and develop and explore new territory.

In 2010, Krall received Juno nominations for Artist of the Year, Album of the Year, and Vocal Jazz Album of the Year, for her most recent album, Quiet Nights – the sixth time she has received multiple Juno nominations in a single year. She also produced and performed on Barbra Streisand’s #1 album Love is the Answer, which was nominated for a Grammy award.

A native of Nanaimo, B.C., and a TMA member since 1988, for two decades Diana Krall’s name, her voice, and her playing have been known and admired across the world. The Toronto Musicians’ Association is proud to recognize her as our 2010 Musician of the Year.
