Brigham Phillips

Brigham Phillips has been on the Toronto music scene for over 40 years as a player (piano and trumpet), bandleader, teacher, producer, composer and arranger, performing jazz, pop, Dixieland, theatre and orchestral music. His CD “And It Really Was” featuring Canadian jazz greats Guido Basso and Mike Murley was nominated for a Juno in 2002 and won Brigham the National Jazz Award for Producer of the Year. In the summer of 2008, Brigham went to Moscow twice to record the Moscow Festival Orchestra performing his arrangements of Celtic classics and songs from the American songbook. Brigham was musical director for John McDermott for 15 years and the musical director for David Clayton-Thomas (of Blood, Sweat and Tears fame) for 4 years. For much of 2013-17 Brigham was touring with The (Canadian) Tenors playing keyboards, accordion and trumpet as well as performing with The Official Blues Brothers Revue and serving as musical director with Drayton Entertainment. He completed his Masters in Music Composition in 2018. In February of 2023 Brigham released a digital cd of original pop/jazz compositions entitled Breezin’ On By accompanied by some of Toronto’s finest jazz musicians, available on Spotify, Amazon, Apple Music and Bandcamp.

John Trembath

Mr. Trembath has performed with many orchestras across Canada. Trembath is currently a freelance cellist in the GTA. He has served musicians in various capacities including: Chairman of OCSM, Director of Symphonic Services Division and as President of TMA Local 149. He is a past member of AFM Locals 1 and 226.

Charlie Gray

A professional trumpet player and composer with 30 years of artistry, Charlie Gray joined the Halifax Local in 1969, Boston in 1972, and TMA in 1975. As Secretary since 2009, Charlie has raised the Member’s Assistance Fund to $100/week, helped rebrand TMA, and established pivotal partnerships with THE PERSONAL INSURANCE and MICROSOFT.

Debi Sander Walker

As Vice-President of the Toronto Musicians Association, Debi knows that entertainment is a not only an art form, but also a business. A multi-talented performer, Debi’s experience encompasses classical music, light rock, jazz standards and dance music as well as character sketches. She’s a singer/ songwriter/ actress that has toured both Canada and the United States. She was the alternate lead in “Patsy!” and in the States she played the lead role in ”A Closer Walk With Patsy Cline” and starred in the “Tribute To Rosemary Clooney”. She fronts and manages her own 11-piece Big Band. Debi is also a successful composer. “A Mother’s Cry” (from her first CD, “Cry Out Loud”) reached the Top 40 charts. Debi was named “Musician of the Year” – Mississauga Arts Council and was nominated for Woman of Distinction - “Pinnacle Award”. Her company, Debi Sander Walker Entertainment received the “Sam McCallion Community Involvement Award”, the Mississauga Board of Trade presented her with the “Chairman Award” and she was also a director with Carassauga. “In representing our Musicians I want to bring the TMA profile out more to the public and show the public the benefits of hiring TMA members.”

Les Allt

Principal Flute of the National Ballet Orchestra, Les Allt trained in both jazz and classical music. He is known for his musical finesse, versatility, and facility across genres. With a vast collection of flutes from around the world, he has performed in multiple film scores, recordings, musicals and cross-cultural collaborations. To quote JazzUSA, “Les Allt sounds like educated birds”. Leslie Allt’s journey with the Toronto Musicians' Association (TMA 149) began not in a boardroom but in a household where music was the air they breathed. His earliest memories, the harmonies that permeated every corner of his home, would later shape his commitment to musicians' rights and advocacy.
