In Memory of Roy Penney
We honour the life and legacy of Roy Penney – a gifted musician, songwriter, three-time Juno Award winner, and proud member of the Toronto Musicians’ Association. Originally from Corner Brook, Newfoundland, Roy’s journey through music took him far and wide, with notable ties to the vibrant music scenes of Toronto and Nashville.
He toured extensively across Canada and the U.S., including time on the road with the legendary Carter Family. A skilled guitarist and thoughtful composer, Roy not only performed but also wrote music that reflected the depth of his experiences. His presence in the studio and on stage was marked by humility, precision, and an unwavering dedication to his craft.
Beyond his musical achievements, Roy was a beautiful person – kind hearted, full of laughter, and rarely without a guitar in his hands. He lived and breathed music, and those who knew him will remember him not only for his talent, but for his warmth, humour, and the genuine joy he brought to others.
Roy will always be remembered, both in melody and in memory.
