John Trembath’s career as a cellist and advocate for musicians spans decades, driven by his passion for supporting his fellow artists. Having performed with orchestras across Canada, John has experienced firsthand the challenges and rewards of life as a professional musician. Now a freelance cellist in the Greater Toronto Area, he remains deeply involved in efforts to ensure that musicians are properly represented and supported in their careers.

Currently serving as a Director of the Toronto Musicians’ Association (TMA), John plays a key role in addressing the needs of musicians across all genres. His leadership is shaped by years of experience working with organizations like the Organization of Canadian Symphony Musicians (OCSM), where he served as Chairman, and the Symphonic Services Division of the American Federation of Musicians (AFM), where he has been a Negotiator since 2018. In these roles, he has been instrumental in advocating for fair treatment, collective bargaining rights, and improved working conditions for musicians.

At the TMA, John continues to work diligently to ensure that the union remains a strong and reliable advocate for its members. His efforts are focused on fostering collaboration between musicians and the organizations they work with, ensuring that their contributions are valued and their voices are heard. His broad experience, including his past affiliations with AFM Locals 1 and 226, gives him a wide-ranging perspective on the issues that affect musicians both locally and nationally.

Through his ongoing work with the TMA and his leadership within the broader musical community, John Trembath remains a dedicated advocate for musicians, helping shape a future where they are supported, respected, and empowered to succeed in their craft.
