Debi Sander Walker

Vice President

Debi’s journey with music starts early; a five-year-old singing and dancing, the world a stage even then. This nascent love for music led Debi Sander Walker to vocal coaching in Kansas and Colorado, shaping a voice destined to traverse genres and captivate audiences.

By 1982, Debi’s association with the Toronto Musicians’ Association (TMA 149) had begun, marking the start of her deep commitment to the musical community. Her career spans decades and disciplines, from singer to band leader, agent to producer, publicist to composer. This breadth of experience infuses her leadership with a profound understanding of the musician’s life—its joys, its struggles, and the relentless drive to create.

Debi’s performances are a testament to her versatility. She transforms seamlessly from delivering sensual ballads to eliciting laughter with her stage antics. Her repertoire is a rich tapestry of comedic cabaret, rock ‘n’ roll, country, smouldering jazz, top 40 hits, and exquisite classical operatic arias. Each show is a blend of sincerity and spectacle, her classically trained voice as comfortable in a hard rock setting as it is in an opera house.

Her accolades speak to her impact: named “Musician of the Year” by the Mississauga Arts Council, nominated for the Woman of Distinction “Pinnacle Award,” and recipient of the Sam McCallion Community Involvement Award. Debi’s company, Debi Sander Walker Entertainment, has also been honoured with the Chairman Award.

Debi’s leadership extends beyond the stage. As Vice-President of TMA 149, she champions the cause of musicians, understanding that entertainment is both an art and a business. Her mission is to elevate the profile of TMA members, showcasing the benefits of hiring union musicians. Her own musical journey, marked by tours across Canada and the United States, starring roles in productions like “Patsy!” and “A Closer Walk With Patsy Cline,” and her tenure as the only female Big Band Leader in Canada, exemplifies her dedication to her craft and community.

A successful composer, Debi’s discography includes the poignant “A Mother’s Cry,” which reached #26 on the Top 40 charts. She then released, “Surprise!! It’s Christmas!!” in 1999, “Full Spectrum” in 2003 and “Celtic Voices” in 2007 which were very successful projects. In 2008 Debi produced and arranged her first Live Recording “If You Could See Me Now”. Her latest project, “Here I Am,” a double CD blending traditional gospel and contemporary Christian rock was released in 2018. Her songs continue to receive airplay, a testament to her enduring relevance in the music industry.

Debi Sander Walker is not just a musician; she is a beacon of versatility and professionalism. Her leadership at TMA 149 reflects her deep-seated commitment to nurturing and advocating for musicians, ensuring that their voices are heard and respected. In her, the stage finds its home, and the audience feels authentically embraced, a testament to her boundless talent and effervescent spirit.
